New York Jets Betting Outlook: Fix the Running Game

The Jets are both 0-2 straight up and against the spread this season with an 18-point loss to the 49ers and a 10-point loss at Buffalo. They rank last in the NFL in total yards and in the bottom three in passing yards, rushing yards and points scored. The defense is in the bottom 10 in the NFL in rushing yards allowed and points allowed.

Quarterback Sam Darnold completed 21-of-32 passes against the 49ers last week but tallied just 179 yards with one touchdown. On the young season, he has just 394 yards on 67 attempts with two touchdowns and one interception.

The running game struggled without the injured Le’Veon Bell. Frank Gore ran 21 times for 63 yards, while rookie LaMical Perine had 17 yards on three carries. The Jets have just 156 yards rushing in the two games with an average of 3.5 yards per carry.

Wide receiver Chris Hogan had six catches for 75 yards, while Braxton Berrios caught six balls for 59 yards and a touchdown. Jamison Crowder caught seven passes before being injured in Week 1, and he’s the only Jets receiver with more than 75 yards on the season.

The defense picked up three sacks and one interception but allowed big plays with touchdown runs of 55 and 80 against the 49ers. Safety Marcus Maye leads the team with two sacks while Brian Poole has one.

Indianapolis Colts Betting Outlook: Pound the Ball

The Colts are 1-1 straight up and ATS this season as they beat and covered against the Vikings in Week 2 after being upset in Jacksonville in the opener. The Colts defense leads the NFL in passing yards allowed at 122.5 and total yards allowed at 208 per game. The offense is seventh in passing yards, but 16th in rushing yards and 18th in points scored.

Philip Rivers completed 19-of-25 passes for 214 yards in the win over the Vikings with one touchdown and one interception. On the season, he has completed 77.5% of his passes but still has more interceptions (three) than touchdown passes (two).

Rookie running back Jonathan Taylor ran for 101 yards on 26 carries and one touchdown, while Jordan Wilkins ran nine times for 40 yards. The top target for Rivers in Week 2 was tight end Moe Alie-Cox, who had five catches for 111 yards. T.Y. Hilton brought in three catches for 28 yards, and Zach Pascal had the lone touchdown reception.

The Colts defense picked off Kirk Cousins three times and recorded three sacks as well. They held the Colts to 113 passing yards and 80 rushing yards while forcing four punts. The defense also had four sacks in the Week 1 loss in Jacksonville without forcing a turnover.

New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts Betting Line

● Jets spread: +10.5 (-110); Jets moneyline: +425
● Colts spread: -10.5 (-110); Colts moneyline: -550
● Total: 43.5 points (Over -110, Under -110)

Head coach Frank Reich is counting on his experienced line to keep Rivers upright and lead Taylor down the field. If Rivers can protect the ball, the Colts shouldn’t have many problems against the Jets, who have been overmatched in both games this season.

The Jets need a flawless performance from Darnold and the defense to turn things around.
