At last week's IPL 2022 auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) acquired South African batter Faf du Plessis into their lineup for 7 crores. Recently, Royal Challengers Bangalore unveiled a video on their social media accounts of how they plan to play with Faf du Plessis in their lineup. The team's director of cricket, Mike Hesson, stated that Plessis will be a great addition to their team, stressing that this player has all the leadership qualities that an RCB team needs. In addition, Hesson noted the terrific record of a right-handed hitter in a money-rich league.
In an interview, Hesson said that based on options on the current roster and options at auction, Faf du Plessis is the player with whom the Royal Challengers Bangalore team can gain a real advantage. Mike Hesson also added that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will most likely try to get Faf du Plessis back during the auction, as they do with all their players. However, while CSK will be looking to reacquire the player, the Royal Challengers Bangalore will also be targeting Faf du Plessis. According to Hesson, in addition to CSK, there are plenty of other teams that will be gunning for Plessis because he is a member of the “all-star” group.
As expected, CSK did make the first offer after Faf du Plessis' name was announced in the auction, offering a price of 3.2 crores. The Delhi Capitals team also expressed interest in the candidacy, however, Royal Challengers Bangalore won the bidding with a bid of 7 crores.
