The AFC Championship Game is set, and this is not the matchup that most people were expecting or predicted. The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Tennessee Titans in a rematch of a terrific regular season game. Tennessee was able to defeat the Chiefs by a score of 35-32 in that game, but things are different in the NFL Playoffs.
Kansas City finished the regular season with a record of 12-4 to earn a first-round bye. The Chiefs looked rusty in the AFC Championship Game, but would up securing a 51-31 victory over the Houston Texans.
Tennessee entered the playoffs as the number six seed, but they have not played like it. The Titans have picked up impressive road wins over the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens to earn a spot in this game.
The Kansas City Chiefs are -7.0 point favorites over the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship Game.
Chiefs Need to Fix Some Things
The Kansas City Chiefs shot themselves in the foot on both defense and special teams in the first quarter of their AFC Divisional Round win. Kansas City gave up a blocked punt for a touchdown, and Tyreek Hill muffed a punt. All of that led to a 24-0 deficit, but their defense was able to turn things around in a hurry. The Chiefs were one of the best defensive teams in the NFL over the last 8 weeks of the season, and they certainly played like it in the second half of that win.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was a few yards short of throwing six touchdown passes during the win over the Houston Texans. Tight end Travis Kelce was the recipient of three of those touchdown passes, but the Chiefs are absolutely loaded with weapons on that side of the ball. Kansas City scored 51 points in the win, and are capable of another big performance against the Titans.
Titans Will Continue to Run the Football
The Tennessee Titans will slow this game down by running the football, and they have a real weapon in the backfield. Running back Derrick Henry has ran for at least 182 yards in each of the last three games, and he has put this Titans team on his back. The Titans are almost impossible to beat if they can get an early lead, which will be the strategy in this game. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been sharp as well, and is playing the best football of his career.
Even though the Titans have the offense to keep up in a shootout with the Kansas City Chiefs, defense has to be a priority in this game. The Titans have shut down two impressive offenses already this postseason, and they have plenty of confidence. Tennessee will not be afraid to blitz Patrick Mahomes in this game, and their secondary has the talent to slow down the receivers.
Titans Battle, Chiefs Advance to Super Bowl
The Tennessee Titans have already pulled off a pair of stunning upsets in the NFL Playoffs, and they will have a ton of momentum in this game. Tennessee has the best running back in football on their side, but this game will come down to their defense.
Kansas City looked absolutely unstoppable on offense in the AFC Divisional Round, but they made some mistakes early in that game. The Chiefs should be able to put up plenty of points in this game, but finding a way to stop Derrick Henry is a key.
Look for the Titans to keep this one close until the fourth quarter, but they are going to fall short. The Chiefs are just too explosive on offense, and they aren’t losing in Kansas City. Bet the Kansas City Chiefs -7.0 over the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship Game. Take the Chiefs as the favorite at A1pph.com our favorite pay per head bookie site.
