Longtime NFC North rivals are set to kick off a full slate of NFL football on Thanksgiving Day. This is the second straight season that the Chicago Bears will spend Thanksgiving Day in Detroit to take on the struggling Lions. Detroit is always slated to play the first game of the day on Thanksgiving, and the NFL has set up a terrific matchup for this game. Chicago beat Detroit by a score of 20-13 earlier this season, and the Lions will be out for revenge in this game.
The Chicago Bears were considered a Super Bowl contender when the season began, but things have not worked out that way. The Bears have struggled to win games against the best teams in the league, and come into this game with a record of just 5-6. Chicago can still get back into the playoff race this season, but they can’t afford any more losses. Detroit got off to a fast start this season, but it has fallen apart in a hurry. The Lions come into this game with a record of 3-7-1 and sit in last place in the NFC North. The Chicago Bears are -1.0 point favorites over the Detroit Lions in this game.
Quarterback Still An Issue For Bears
The Chicago Bears have an issue at the quarterback position as Mitchell Trubisky does not appear to be the answer. Trubisky did have a pair of touchdown passes against the Lions in the first matchup, and also threw two touchdowns in week 12. The young QB is still throwing for less than 200 yards per game this season, and looks lost when facing pressure. Running the ball has also been a problem for the Bears, who are averaging less than 80 yards per game. Scoring points has not been easy for this team.
Defense has carried this Bears team through the first 11 games, but they are starting to get worn down. The Bears are giving up right at 17 points per game, but they have struggled in the fourth quarter. Chicago will look to get some pressure on whoever is quarterback for the Lions in this game, in hopes of creating some turnovers.
Lions Can’t Find Any Defense
Defense has been a major issue for the Detroit Lions this season as they have given up more than 27 points per game. The Lions did hold the Bears to just 20 points in their first matchup of the season, but they have the potential to give up a ton of points. Look for Detroit to blitz a ton in this game in hopes of forcing some turnovers from Mitchell Trubisky. The Lions can’t give up 27 points if they want to win this game.
Detroit is averaging more than 24 points per game this season, but they are without several top playmakers in this game. Backup quarterback Jeff Driskell has struggled at times since taking over for Matthew Stafford, and the Bears will bring pressure against him all game. The Lions are averaging over 105 rushing yards per game, but that number is not accurate with Kerryon Johnson out of the lineup. Detroit will have to find a way to score on a very good defense.
Bears Beat Lions For Second Straight Time
The Detroit Lions have been riddled with injuries this season, and it has definitely played a role in their performance. Detroit is without their three best playmakers on offense, and their defense has been bad in 2019. The Lions will give the Bears a game in this one, but they just have too many question marks. Chicago has been a disappointment this season, but they still have a very talented roster. Look for the Bears to find just enough offense as they let their defense dominate this game.
