The University of Central Florida Knights have struggled to find quality opponents to fill up their non conference schedule, but that won’t be the case this season. UCF will be hosting Pac-12 powerhouse Stanford in week three in what should be a terrific matchup. Stanford suffered a blowout loss in week two in a rivalry game with the University of Southern California. UCF comes into this game with a perfect 2-0 record, but this will be their biggest test of the regular season.
UCF comes into this game as the 17th ranked team in the country and they are once again trying to make it into the college football playoffs. The Knights have been one of the winningest teams in the last few seasons, and that hasn’t changed in 2019. UCF blew out rival FAU in week two, finishing the game with a 48-14 victory. Stanford got off to a hot start this season, but things went south in a hurry in week two. The Cardinal suffered a 45-20 loss to rival USC on Saturday night, and they need to regroup in a hurry. The winner of this game could use this as momentum to have a great season, while the loser will be scrambling and trying to pick up the pieces.
Stanford Looking For Offense
If the Stanford Cardinal are going to pull off this upset in week three then they are going to need to find some more offense. Stanford scored just 17 points in their week one win over Northwestern, and put up just 20 points in week two. Quarterback David Mills has thrown just one touchdown pass this season, and only put up 318 passing yards. Running back Cameron Scarlett has been impressive in taking over the running back position, but teams are going to load the box to stop him. Scarlett has 179 rushing yards this season, and has found the end zone once this season.
The Stanford Cardinal defense also needs a bounce back performance in this game after getting torched by the USC Trojans. Stanford gave up 45 points in that blowout loss, and really struggled against the pass. The Cardinal gave up close to 400 passing yards in that game, and that could be a huge concern heading into this matchup.
Freshman Gabriel Leading UCF Offense
The University of Central Florida has had some terrific quarterbacks in the last few seasons, and it appears that they have found another one. Freshman Dillon Gabriel has 372 passing yards through the first two weeks and has also thrown five touchdown passes. Running back Bentavious Thompson leads the team with 155 rushing yards this season, and the UCF offense has plenty of balance. UCF wants to play fast on the offensive side of the ball, and they have plenty of weapons to put up a ton of points.
The Knights are known more for their offense, but their defense has been mighty impressive this season. UCF has allowed just 7.0 points per game, and they have plenty of athletes on that side of the ball. The Knights are going to put a ton of pressure on the Stanford offensive line, and they could put up another low score in this game.
UCF Rolls to Third Straight Win
UCF is not used to playing this type of team in the regular season, but they will welcome this matchup. Stanford comes into this game fresh off of a miserable loss, and they really need to bounce back with a win. The Cardinals just can’t score this season, and that will do them in against a high-powered UCF offense. The University of Central Florida has been hoping for a matchup like this in recent seasons, and they are going to win this game.
