Every year, football fans all over the world are glued to their TV sets to watch the Super Bowl. Of all of the NFL teams, the Steelers and the Patriots are tied as far as which teams have won the most Super Bowls. Both teams have lifted that enviable Vince Lombardi trophy six times. The 49ers and the Cowboys are tied for second place with five wins each. However, which Super Bowl games have involved major comebacks that nobody ever expected? Here are just a few:
Super Bowl LI
The all-time biggest comeback in the history of the Super Bowl was in Super Bowl LI when The Patriots were down 28 to 3 to the Falcons with only 8 minutes and 31 seconds to go in the third quarter following a touchdown by Tevin Coleman. Brady and his boys then scored on five straight drives, which included two touchdown drives. After two very successful two-point conversions, the game went into overtime when they were tied at 28. The Patriots won the coin toss, electing to receive, and James White went on to score on a 2-yard touchdown, giving the Patriots this completely unbelievable win. Patriots fans who were into online betting, like with Betway, were understandably ecstatic.
Super Bowl XLVI
This one brought us the Giants coming back from an eight-point deficit vs. the Patriots in a Super Bowl XLII rematch. This time, the Giants found themselves once again being underdogs that were facing Tom Brady and the Patriots. And, like before, the game came right down to the wire. In the fourth quarter, the Giants were down 17 to 9 but found themselves able to close that widening gap down to 17 to 15 following two field goals. The defense was then able to stop Brady and his band of merry men, setting up a touchdown drive led by Eli Manning during the closing minutes. The Patriots were unable to answer during the last minute that they had to go and lost the game 21 to 17. This Super Bowl game became just one of the five lost by the Patriots and only one of three lost while Brady was their quarterback, the other being to the Eagles. They lost a total of twice to the Giants under Brady's quarterbacking.
Super Bowl XLIX
And, speaking of Tom Brady (as everybody seems to be these days) he and his Patriots overcame a ten-point deficit, beating the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX. In the fourth quarter, Seattle was up 24 to 14 following a touchdown by Doug Baldwin and Tom Brady answered with a pair of clutch touchdowns. The Seahawks had the opportunity for the win on a one-yard line go-ahead touchdown, however, Russell Wilson instead threw the ball to Malcolm Butler and it was intercepted in what has been called “one of the most infamous all-time play-calls and the Patriots won 28 to 24.
Super Bowl XXV
In another amazing comeback story involving the Giants, they came back from being nine points down in Super Bowl XXV to beat the pants off of the Bills. The Giants were down 12 to 3 prior to halftime when New York forced a three-and-out and found the end zone, cutting that lead down to 12 to 10. Then in the fourth quarter, the G-Men acquired a 20 to 19 lead, winning the game. Fans in Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania who knew about Betway and backed the Giants could be heard cheering from coast to coast.
