1985 (NBA): Larry Bird notches a career-high 60 points to lead the Boston Celtics to a 126-115 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. The Celtics covered as a 7½-point favorite for the game played in New Orleans, LA. Bird was 22-of-36 from the floor and also had 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Hawks forward Dominique Wilkins scored 36 points in a losing effort.
1987 (College Basketball): As a 14-point underdog, #14 seed Austin Peay upsets #3 seed Illinois 68-67 in the first round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Senior center Darryl Bedford led all scorers with 24 and knocked down 5 3-pointers. Austin Peay would go on to lose 90-87 in the next round to #6 seed Providence.
1999 (College Basketball): Wally Szczerbiak pours in 43 points to lead #10 seed Miami (OH) to a 59-58 victory over #7 seed Washington in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The RedHawks were a 1-point underdog and the game stayed under the total of 137 points. The 43 points are the most by any player in a NCAA Tournament game since 1994 as Szczerbiak was 18-of-33 from the floor and collected 12 rebounds. Miami (OH) would go on to defeat #2 seed Utah 66-58 in the next round as an 8-point underdog but then lose in the Sweet 16 to #3 seed Kentucky.
