1991 (NFL): On the second play from scrimmage of the 2nd half of an AFC Divisional playoff game, Los Angeles Raiders running back Bo Jackson suffers a left hip-injury that would end his football career on a 34-yard run after being tackled from behind by Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Kevin Walker. The Raiders won the game 20-10 and covered as a 7½-point home favorite as the game stayed under the total of 42 points. Jackson had his hip replaced in 1992 and played two more seasons in Major League Baseball for the Chicago White Sox and California Angels before retiring from professional sports at the age of 32 after the 1994 strike-shortened season.

2008 (NFL): Two 7-point or larger favorites are both upset on the same day for the first time in NFL playoff history when the New York Giants defeat the NFC's top-seeded Dallas Cowboys 21-17 and the San Diego Chargers beat the defending Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts 28-24 in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. The Giants, who had lost twice to the Cowboys in the regular season, were 7-point underdogs while the Chargers were 10½-point underdogs. The Chargers would go on to lose 21-12 to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship and the Giants would defeat the undefeated Patriots 17-14 to win Super Bowl XLII.

2020 (College Football): #1 LSU overcomes a 17-7 2nd quarter deficit to beat #3 Clemson 42-25 in the College Football Playoff National Championship game. LSU, who were 40-1 in the preseason to win the National Championship, was a 4½-point favorite and the game went over the total of 66½-points. Heisman Trophy Award winner Joe Burrow passed for 463 yards and 5 touchdowns and also ran for 58 yards and a touchdown.
