1970 (Boxing): Joe Frazier improves to 25-0 and becomes heavyweight champion of the world after defeating fellow American Jimmy Ellis. Frazier was a -400 favorite for the fight held at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY. Frazier knocked down Ellis twice in the 4th round which led to Ellis' trainer, Angelo Dundee, not allowing Ellis to come out for the 5th round.


1997 (NASCAR): Entering as the +200 favorite to win the race, Jeff Gordon wins the first of his three Daytona 500's. The 25-year old Gordon became the youngest Daytona 500 winner ever. Hendrick Motorsports goes 1-2-3 as Gordon finished ahead of teammates Terry Labonte and Ricky Craven.


2003 (Golf): Tiger Woods shoots a 4-under 68 to win the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines by 4 strokes over Carl Pettersson. He was the favorite at +250 to win the tournament. It was the 35th PGA Tour victory for Woods, who was coming off of an offseason knee surgery.
