1977 (MLB): After being traded 2 months earlier, 3-time Cy Young award winner Tom Seaver makes his return to Shea Stadium and pitches a complete game with 11 strikeouts in the Cincinnati Reds 5-1 defeat of the New York Mets. The Reds were -180 road favorites as the 32 year-old Seaver would finish the season 21-6 with a 2.58 ERA.


1990 (MLB): Down 11-1 entering the 8th inning, the Philadelphia Phillies score 9 runs in the top of the 9th inning to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 12-11. The Phillies were +120 road underdogs as Carmelo Martinez's double scored Rod Booker for the winning run.


2016 (Basketball) At the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics - The U.S. men's team wins the gold medal after coasting to a 96-66 victory over Serbia. The U.S. covered as a 23½-point favorite and entered the Olympics as a heavy -1200 favorite to win gold. Kevin Durant led the way as he scored 30 points and connected on five 3-pointers.
