1963 (Boxing): As a -500 favorite, Sonny Liston KO's Floyd Patterson in the first round for the 2nd time in a 9-month span. Liston retained the heavyweight title that he won from Patterson but would lose it in his next match against Muhammad Ali 15 months later.
2001 (Golf): American David Duval shoots a final round 4-under 67 and wins his 1st and only major championship at the Open Championship by 3 strokes over Niclas Fasth. Duval entered the tournament at 25-1 to win the title as Tiger Woods, who was the favorite at 3-1, finished tied for 25th and 9 strokes back of Duval.

2012 (Golf): 42 year-old South African Ernie Els wins his 4th major championship with a 1-stroke victory over Adam Scott at the Open Championship. Els entered the tournament at 40-1 to win the title and was 22-1 entering the final round as he overcame a 6-shot deficit to Scott. The Australian was a -149 odds-on-favorite entering the final round with a 4-stroke lead but bogeyed each of the last 4 holes to shoot a 5-over 75.
