1993 (NFL): In an AFC Wild Card playoff game, the Buffalo Bills rally from a 35-3 third quarter deficit to pull off the greatest comeback in NFL history (at the time) as they beat the Houston Oilers 41-38 in overtime. The Bills covered as a 2-point home favorite and the game went over the total of 37 points. Bills quarterback Frank Reich, who was filling in for Jim Kelly, led the comeback as he tossed 3 of his 4 touchdown passes to Andre Reed who finished with 8 catches for 136 yards. Buffalo would go on to win their 3rd of 4 straight AFC Championships.
1999 (NFL): Terrell Owens catches a 25-yard touchdown pass from Steve Young with 8 seconds left to give the San Francisco 49ers a 30-27 victory over the 2-time defending NFC champion Green Bay Packers. The game pushed as the 49ers were 3-point home favorites and the game went over the total of 49½-points. San Francisco would lose the following week in the Divisional round to the Atlanta Falcons 20-18.
2003 (College Football): In the BCS National Championship played at the Fiesta Bowl in Tempe - #2 Ohio State defeats #1 Miami (FL) 31-24 in double overtime. The Buckeyes were an 11½-point underdog and the game went over the total of 49 points thanks to 21 points scored in the 2 overtime periods. In the first overtime, the Hurricanes thought they had stopped the Buckeyes on downs but a late defensive pass interference call extended the game. Since 1998, this remains as the biggest upset in a National Championship or semifinal playoff game.
