1979 (NFL): In an NFC Divisional round playoff game, the Los Angeles Rams score the game-winning 50-yard touchdown with 2 minutes left in the game on a tipped pass from Vince Ferragamo to Billy Waddy to defeat the 2-time defending NFC champion Dallas Cowboys 21-19. The Rams were an 8½-point road underdog and the touchdown moved the game over the total of 39 points. Los Angeles would go on to lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-19 in Super Bowl XIV.


1984 (NFL): The Chicago Bears defeat the 2-time defending NFC champion Washington Redskins 23-19 in an NFC Divisional round playoff game. The Bears were a 9-point road underdog and the game went over the total of 38 points. Running back Walter Payton rushed for 104 yards and threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Pat Dunsmore for the first touchdown of the game. The Bears would lose 23-0 the following week in the NFC Championship to the eventual Super Bowl champion San Francisco 49ers.


2000 (NFL): After losing their first 4 playoff games, the New Orleans Saints finally win their first playoff game since becoming a franchise in 1967 with a 31-28 victory over the defending Super Bowl champion St Louis Rams in an NFC Wild Card playoff game. The Saints were a 6.5-point home underdog and the game went over the total of 55 points thanks to a 4th quarter that saw 35 points scored. Quarterback Aaron Brooks threw for 266 yards and 4 touchdowns.
