Washington was a 3-point underdog and the game went over the total of 47 points. Doug Williams was named Super Bowl MVP after throwing for 420 yards and 4 touchdowns. Wide receiver Ricky Sanders caught 2 of the touchdowns and finished with 193 receiving yards while rookie running back Timmy Smith ran for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns.
1993 (Tennis): American Jim Courier defeats Stefan Edberg in 4 sets for the 2nd straight year in the Australian Open men's final. The 22-year old Courier was a -160 favorite for the match. It was Courier's 4th and final Grand Slam title.
1999 (NFL): The Denver Broncos win back-to-back Super Bowls after defeating the Atlanta Falcons 34-19 in Super Bowl XXXIII at Pro Player Stadium in Miami. The Broncos covered as a 7½-point favorite and the game went over the total of 51½-points. Quarterback John Elway, who played in his final game as he retired in the offseason, was named Super Bowl MVP after rushing for 1 touchdown and throwing for 336 yards and 1 touchdown.
