1994 (NBA): Charles Barkley pours in 56 points leading the 3½-point underdog Phoenix Suns to a 140-133 victory over the Golden State Warriors and a 3-game sweep of their first round series. The Suns were -360 series favorites as Barkley's 56 points are tied for the third-highest total ever in an NBA Playoff game, and his 38 points in the first half set a record. Phoenix would lose in 7 games in the next round to the eventual champion Houston Rockets.
2000 (NHL): The Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins play the third-longest playoff game in NHL history. Keith Primeau's goal 12:01 into the 5th overtime gave the Flyers a 2-1 Game 4 victory. Philadelphia was a -140 favorite for the game as they would go on to win their Conference Semifinals series in 6 games.
2002 (Horse Racing): Jockey Victor Espinoza wins his first of three Kentucky Derbys aboard War Emblem, who was 20-1 and won by four lengths.
