Baylor, who entered the season at +800 to win the National Championship, was led by guard Jared Butler's 22 points - he was later named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player. The Bulldogs became the first team since 1979 to reach the National Championship without a loss but came up just one game short of being the first undefeated team to win the National Championship since Indiana in 1976.
