1995 (MLB): In the Baltimore Orioles 4-2 victory over the California Angels, shortstop Cal Ripkin Jr. breaks Lou Gehrig's consecutive game records as he plays in his 2,131st straight game. The Orioles were -180 home favorites as Ripken went 2-for-4 with a home run and took a victory lap around Camden Yards after the game became official in the middle of the 5th-inning.


1997 (Tennis): 16 year-old Martina Hingis defeats 17 year-old Venus Williams 6-0, 6-4 in the final at the U.S. Open. Hingis was a -800 favorite for the match and entered the tournament at even money to win the title as Hingis won her 3rd grand slam title of the year.


1998 (NFL): Peyton Manning makes his NFL regular season debut in the Indianapolis Colts 24-15 loss against the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins covered as 3-½-point road favorites as Manning threw for 302 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
