1984 (MLB): The San Diego Padres reach their first World Series after defeating the Chicago Cubs 6-3 in the winner-take-all Game 5 of the NLCS. The Padres were even money home underdogs and also entered Game 1 of the series as even money underdogs. The Cubs blew a 2-0 series lead and a 3-0 lead in Game 5 as they were looking to reach their first World Series in 39 years.


1984 (NFL): Walter Payton becomes the NFL's all-time leading rusher as he surpasses Jim Brown's mark of 12,312 yards in the Chicago Bears 20-7 victory over the New Orleans Saints. The Bears covered as 2½-point home favorites and the game went under the total of 38½-points. Payton also broke Brown's record of 58 100-yard rushing games as he finished the day with 154 yards and a touchdown.


2006 (MLB): The Detroit Tigers advance to their first ALCS in 19 years after defeating the New York Yankees 8-3 in Game 4 to win their ALDS series 3 games to 1. The Tigers were +115 home underdogs and entered Game 1 as +260 series underdogs - in terms of series prices, it's tied for the 2nd biggest upset in MLB playoff history.
