1986 (NFL): The use of instant replay is used for the first time in an NFL regular season game on the 3rd play from scrimmage of the game between the Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears. Browns safety Al Gross recovered the ball in the Bears end zone after a bad snap. The officials on the field did not make a ruling but the review booth awarded a touchdown to Cleveland. The defending champion Bears would go on to win the game 41-31 but fail to cover the 10½-point spread as the game sailed over the total of 38 points.
2003 (Tennis): Andy Roddick wins his first and only Grad Slam title after defeating French Open champion Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. Roddick was a -200 favorite for the match and entered the tournament as the +300 favorite to win the title. He remains the last American male to win a major title.
2013 (College Football): As a 29½-point road underdog, FCS member Nicholls State upsets Western Michigan 27-23. The Colonels took the lead for good with 11:19 remaining in the 4th quarter after Andrew Dolan's 29 yard field goal.
