1956 (MLB): In Game 5 of the World Series, Don Larsen throws a perfect game in the New York Yankees 2-0 victory over the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Yankees were -130 favorites for the game as Larsen struck out 7 on 97 pitches. The gem remains the only perfect game in MLB playoff history. The Yankees would go on to win the World Series in 7 games as Larsen was named World Series MVP. New York entered Game 1 as -160 favorites to win the series.
1977 (College Football): As a 7½-point road underdog, #7 Alabama defeats #1 USC 21-20. Trojans fullback Lynn Cain scored with 38 seconds left in the game but they elected to go for the win and not settle for the tie - the decision backfires as their 2-point attempt fails.
1995 (MLB): The Seattle Mariners become only the 4th team in MLB history to overcome a 2-0 deficit in a 5-game series after they defeat the New York Yankees 6-5 in 11 innings. The Mariners were +120 home underdogs for the game and entered Game 1 as +180 series underdogs. Edgar Martinez's 2-run double off of Jack McDowell gave the Mariners the win and Ken Griffey Jr. tied an MLB record with 5 home runs in a postseason series.
2005 (College Football) Baylor wins a Big 12 road game for the first time since the league began in 1996 after beating Iowa State 23-13. The Bears were 8-point underdogs as they had been 0-37 as a visitor in conference play.
