1919 (MLB): The Cincinnati Reds defeat the Chicago White Sox 10-5 to win the best-of-9 World Series 5 games to 3. The Reds entered Game 1 as +110 series underdogs as eight members of the White Sox would be accused of throwing games in exchange for money from gamblers. The players were later found not guilty but were banned from the sport for life.
1977 (MLB): The New York Yankees rally for 3 runs in the 9th inning to beat the Kansas City Royals 5-3 in the winner-take-all Game 5 of the American League Championship Series. The Yankees were +110 road underdogs for the game and entered Game 1 as -140 favorites for the series. The Yankees would go on to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers in 6 games to win the World Series.
1996 (MLB): 12-year old Jeffrey Maier reaches over the fence and brings Derek Jeter's catchable deep fly ball into the stands as the New York Yankees go on to defeat the Baltimore Orioles 5-4 in Game 1 of the ALCS. The Yankees were -150 home favorites as the home run tied the game at 4-4 in the 8th inning. The Orioles claimed fan interference but to no avail.
2010 (College Football): #19 South Carolina ends #1 Alabama's 19-game winning streak with a 35-21 victory. The Gamecocks were 6½-point home underdogs and the game went over the total of 46½-points. South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia was 17-for-20 with 201 passing yards and 3 touchdowns.
