Bulls star guard Zach LaVine had a disagreement with head coach Jim Boylen during the 116-108 home loss against the Heat on November 22.
LaVine felt “disrespected” when he was pulled in the first quarter against the Heat, when the Bulls went down 13-0. He finished the game with just 15 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 29 minutes.
Boylen said LaVine made “3 egregious defensive mistakes” and when asked about it he said: “Zach LaVine got 13 points scored on him, I guess. Or was it the starting 5? I don’t remember. I thought I was trying to do my job out there.”
He then told Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports that: “I'm trying my best, I'll say that. I'm playing my minutes and trying to do the best I can do. It's tough, especially when you're in a rut. If he doesn't trust me, it's hard to trust someone who doesn't trust you.”
LaVine talked to Boylen before the Hornets game and they cleared the air and his message around the Bulls on Saturday was: “No drama. Let's ball.” He did just that, having a career game with 49 points on 17 of 28 shooting, including 13 of 17 from beyond the arc and the game-winner in the 116-115 road win against the Hornets last Saturday. LaVine broke the Bulls franchise record for most 3-point shots in a game and joined Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry as the only players in NBA history with at least 13 3-pointers in a game.
